TV Series Review – Squid Game
Korean cinema has long shown that it can produce great content. Drama, sci-fi, thriller, horror it doesn’t matter. The level of the production is always high. It has a lot of fans worldwide, mainly because it able to mix Korean and western culture into one, creating something, which can be easily “digested” by the viewers. With the latest hit serise Squid Game, they elevated that even more. But is it truly the masterpiece, advertised? Produced by Netflix, the story is quite simple and to be honest, not original at all. Asian culture loves Battle Royal themes. Japan has several movies, manga and anime on the theme, pitting against each other…

TV Series Review – Five most successful series of 2019
At the end of the year, I decided to write a short article about the most successful series, for me, this year. This will not be a ranking for which is the best of all, but simply a recommendation to those who have not watched them to pay attention. And here they are: 1. Watchmen For this miracle of the television industry created by HBO, I set out to prepare a separate article. However, there is so much background that needs to be explained that I began to get lost in my words. In short, the action unfolds in a parallel universe where, thanks to a “failed” experiment, a god-like…

TV Series Review – The Mandalorian
After Disney bought Lucasfilm, their first job was to declare much of the accompanying comic books and fanart as non-canon. Which means, that they are not part of the main series of events that is the basis of the Episodes. This angered a lot of fans, but on the other hand it cleared up the story a bit, which had reached levels of absurdity. However, recent Star Wars projects have been a huge failure. Episode VIII enraged fans and even Mark Hamill, with its chaotic story, excess blotting, and total disregard for the Jedi teachings. And the subsequent story of Han Solo buried the series even more. This movie was…

TV Series Review – The Boys
Over the last 10 years, the movie industry has achieved a very difficult task, namely the translation of superheroes to the big screen. There is almost no one who doesn’t know Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and many more. But what they all have in common is that as superheroes they fight for humanity and we are used to see them as protectors. What if, instead, the superheroes thought only of themselves and didn’t care about ordinary people? That’s exactly the story in one of DC’s darker comics, The Boys, which recently received an adaptation from Amazon. In the following paragraphs, I will look at exactly that moral dilemma.…

TV Series Review – Stranger Things
Truth be told the Stranger Things series did not give out a very strong vibe when it was announced. It was expected to be some kind of generic Sci-Fi project developing in the recent past. All this, however, changed with the pilot episode. Nerd nostalgia hit the viewer like pancakes on Saturday morning. For us in Bulgaria, the 80s came a little later, but we can certainly associate with almost every element introduced in the series. The very dynamics between the 4 main characters returns the viewer in moments when the playing outside was the most anticipated thing on the summer vacation. You will ask where the Sci-Fi element is…

TV Series Review – Chernobyl
After the ending of GoT, which left us with mixed feelings, I wondered if HBO would be able pull itself from the “hole”, which the notorious D&D (not Dungeons and Dragons) screenwriters created. The truth is that many viewers were disappointed, not because of the finish itself but because how fast it was wrapped in 6 episodes. And suddenly Chernobyl appeared. A series, based on the most terrible accident human history. We, the so-called Eastern Block, have experienced it to a great extent, which makes us somehow connected to it. So, the question I asked, was did HBO manage to redeem its guilt for the disappointing ending of GoT? The…

TV Series Review – Game of Thrones S8E6
So here came the finale of Game of Thrones. After 10 years, Westeros was finally liberated from the Lannisters and their conspiracies, which killed a lot of good people. In this article I will break down the finale of the saga. All bad characters died, Jon became the King of The Seven Kingdoms and Dany stood by his side as a ruler… well, not really. What happened then? To summarize it, the expected, given the last episode. The screenwriters destroyed 10 years of character progression and in the end, the finale was just as the season tone laid it out to be. Until episode 4 I had faith and I…

TV Series Review – Lucifer S4
After Fox sold their movie division to Disney, including the TV shows, they decided to cancel all, no matter successful or not. Sadly, one of them was Lucifer. Police, buddy cop, supernatural drama based on Vertigo/DC comics and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. But after a fan backlash, Netflix amazingly bought the rights and created the latest, season 4. Typically for them, the whole season can be binged in the online platform. But is there any difference between the productions of Fox and Netflix, I’ll gloss over that in the following paragraphs. For those of you, who are not familiar with the show, it tells the story of Lucifer (Tom Ellis),…

TV Series Review – Game of Thrones S8E5
As a matter of fact, the episode is called “The Bells,” but from the very beginning of the season, it was known that the final battle for the series will be played there. But, was there a fight at all? I will tackle this topic in this article. From my point of view, it was not a battle. There was no military point in killing innocents, but wasn’t this exactly the goal? We all expected to see a battle between good and evil, but we’ve already seen it in Episode 3. This was rather a manifestation of the Targaryen’s gene. I will break down the most important events: 1. The…

TV Series Review – Game of Thrones S8E4
After the last episode immersed us in the biggest battle in the history of cinema, in this one, we needed to understand what exactly has come out of it, and more precisely what is left out of it. Amazingly, a lot. According to the generals themselves, about half of Dany’s army was hacked/slashed, that apparently balanced the strength between the forces of the two queens (how unexpected). But this article is not about that. In it, I want to ask whether this was the laziest episode in the history of the saga that is GoT? To answer it, I have to look at the events in the aftermath of the…
